UNCCLA National Executive Committee Elected and Commissioned

The Uganda National Catholic Council of Lay Apostolate (UNCCLA) has elected a new National Executive Committee during its National Assembly held at Ulrika Guest House, Kawuku. The election culminated in the commissioning of the newly elected leaders by His Grace Paul Ssemwogerere, the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese and Chairman of the Lay Apostolate Commission.

UNCCLA is the national body that unites all Catholic laity in Uganda, coordinating Lay Apostolate Associations, Movements, and Councils across dioceses. In line with its mission—rooted in the teachings of the Second Vatican Council—the Council seeks to empower the lay faithful to actively participate in the life, worship, governance, and evangelising mission of the Church. The laity, who are not members of the clergy or religious orders, are called to sanctify the world and bring Christ into every sphere of life.

The newly elected leadership includes:

  • President – Gervase Ndyanabo
  • Vice President – Anthony Mateega
  • Secretary General – Richard Akena
  • Assistant Secretary General – Ann Grace Nakol
  • Treasurer – Robert Kamiza
  • Women Representative – Assumpta Gidudu
  • Youth Representative – Prossy Namata
  • Kampala Province Representative – Emily Mwaka
  • Tororo Province Representative – Jane Frances Akiteng
  • Gulu Province Representative – Ann Lumumba
  • Mbarara Province Representative – Odo Tumukwasibwe
  • Lay Apostolate Movements Representative – Grace Nantale

As the newly commissioned team takes office, UNCCLA remains committed to strengthening the lay apostolate through coordination, formation, leadership development, and service. With a strong focus on promoting the family as the “domestic Church,” encouraging evangelisation, and supporting national development through Catholic values, the new Executive Committee is expected to energize the laity’s role in both the Church and society.

With this leadership, UNCCLA reaffirms its mandate to empower lay Catholics, strengthen coordination among diocesan councils and movements, promote the family as the “domestic Church,” and foster transformation in society through Gospel values.

As the Archbishop called for exemplary leadership, the new Executive Committee stands poised to deepen formation programs, advance national collaboration, and energize the lay apostolate for greater impact across Uganda.
